For two hundred years the Cattery bred champions. Ribbons, bloodlines, a whole wall of them. Then this one arrived.
No name. No papers. He took the east wing without asking. Within a season he could read a ledger. Within two, he could ruin one.
The family called it high spirits. The bank called it something else. He lost the east wing on a single hand of cards and did not apologise.
Nine lives, they said of him. Nine lives, meticulously wasted — three gone before anyone thought to hang his portrait at the end of the corridor, in the dark, where guests would not have to look at it.
He is on his fourth. He is spending it on Solana.
